Dear members of Whigs,

To all who supported the Capt. Day many thanks for you support, it was a good days golf with many challenges.

I’m very pleased that you enjoyed the day and even though some of you had to make sacrifices to be there, it’s much appreciated.

With out the numbers which we ended up with I don’t think it would be worth holding such a day but the 22 of you did not let the society down.

Hopefully our remaining events for 2018 will be equally supported.

Unfortunately due to the low numbers booked for the dinner in Ashford in November it was agreed by members at the Capt. Day to cancel this event.

Carl is looking at other options, one in particular may be favoured by most, would be to support the New Landlord of the White Horse in Jan or Feb next year by having our year end dinner at the White Horse.

Our Christmas game will be held at Romney Warren on the 1 December, with a round of golf perhaps silly hats, a winter warmer and Christmas dinner.

We will at this game honour the Year end Competition winners and the Capt. Day winners during the dinner. Please support.

Once again many thanks for your support and good luck for the year ahead, new season 2018/2019 commences the 26 October 2018.

Best regards to all

John Beattie Capt. WHIGS

There was 16, on the day, some who we haven’t seen for a long time.

Good day all,

The results for Friday 27 July 2018 at Bearsted Golf Club, a good days golf but very, very Hot (but us old sweats who have played in places like Belize took it in our stride), the course was in good order considering the dry spell we have had.

The Knockout challenge between Rob Pearson and Steve Carr was a good battle and a pleasure to have played along with them but there can only be one winner and that was Rob well done and well done to Steve for a brave challenge. This hopefully will take us to the final on Saturday the 11 August between Keith and Rob.

The breakfast was very good and club admin up to it usual high standard.

Winners:

Stapleford winner John Beattie with a score of 37. Nearest the Pin Keith Tomlinson, Longest Drive Rob Pearson.

The lost ball was a Roll Over kitty stands at £32.

A special mention must go to the Stapleford winner it does not happen often but he was on fire, with 4 no score holes but made up for it with a 2 on the 14th giving 5 points, now a member of Julian’s 5 point club.

Thank you to everyone who took part on Friday, the next game on Saturday the 11 August 2018 at Bearsted Golf Club.

30/6/18

Good day all,

Just finished the results for Friday 22 June 18 at River Valley, Upchurch, mixed feelings regards this venue some liked it a lot some don’t really want to see it again, there was some really good scoring as you will see on the results sheet. The course was in very good condition but very busy, food was okay but took a long time to serve although we did manage to make our tee off time.

BAKO competition between Rob P and Kevin B resulted in a win for Rob well done and commiserations to the loser.

There were 8 of us and 1 guest my nephew Paul O’Neil who lives in Sittingbourne, the weather was very good a bit warm.

Unfortunately we were 3 short for the minimum of 12 and had to pay full costs for the shortfall including the food, I would never be able to strike up the same raptor that I have with our other venues, It’s very much business no Client Customer Relationship.

Winners:

Stapleford winner Richard Davey with 35 and yes his H/C has gone down one, Nearest the Pin Kevin Beattie, Longest Drive Mary Darling, well done to all.

The lost ball was a Roll Over.

Thank you to those who took part on Friday, the next game on Saturday the 14 July at The weald of Kent Golf Club, B/fast 10:00, tee off 11:00.

The results of the BAKO round 3 going through Steve Carr, Keith Tomlinson, Rob Pearson and Paul Smallman.

Draw results for round 4: Steve Carr plays Rob Pearson and Keith Tomlinson plays Paul Smallman.

Well done to those who have made it so far and good luck for your next challenge.

Please get in touch with each other and match up your dates for this round.

Breakfast was back to its usual standard after a dodge one at the last game, well done caterers, the snack back at the White Horse was very good.

The results for the day; Stapleford winner Julian Wheatley with 35 points (on fire again scoring a 5 on the first hole).

Nearest the Pin no winners this time, Longest Drive Steve Bray well done.

The lost ball was won by Capt. John £15.

One other result to mention the WHIGS entered two teams into the white Horse Quiz night, one expert team and a support back up. Nearest the Pin I think only the second time in the history of the Society John Beattie Capt. Longest Drive Cliff Smallman well done.

Good day all,

Just finished the results for Friday 27 April 18 at Bearsted Golf Club, some very good golf, the course was in good order.

This game also ended the first  round of the Barbara Adamson Knock Out Competition, a special mention to Carl from his opponent Keith for having come out and played the challenge, had he not come out he would have gone through with the points he amassed at the Weald, good chap well done.

There were 15 of us, the weather was okay but a bit wet at the end.

We had a good breakfast and a very hospitable welcome from all we met, the General Manager made himself known to all and brief us on the course conditions.

This was our first game at Bearsted with the Breem Construction Sponsorship thanks to Carl Gregory lets hope there are many more.

On return to the White Horse a really good spread considering the kitchen is out of order.

A rather eventful end to the day for me, having left Bearsted onto the M20, a phone call from Steve Bray he had lost his keys did anyone see them answer no, until I checked my pockets and something strange came to light, a bunch of keys in my pocket. We then had to go all the way to Ashford turn around at junction 9 return to Bearsted where a very happy Steve was waiting, I think he had demolished more cake and tea whilst waiting, so he wasn’t that unhappy. Then it was back to the M20, lesson for you all don’t leave car keys lying around when I’m present.

A point of order for the future,

please check your scores properly I found unclaimed points on two cards, Carl you were two short and Marion one short. A query from Michael on his last game why was he reduced by two points, which I looked into, the stapleford scores had not been filled in on his card and he had signed it, he has been issued with a verbal warning, so watch out.

Winners:

Stapleford winner Kevin Beattie with a score of 39 well done Son, Nearest the Pin John Betts first time out well done (you will have to change that shirt), Longest Drive Steve Bray it was a monster of a drive.

The lost ball was a roll over.

Thank you to everyone who took part on Friday, the next game on Saturday the 12 May at Bearsted Golf Club, B/fast 11:15, tee off 12:00, it may be a bit later depending on the numbers going out in front of us, members competition.

Good day all,

The results are attached for the Saturday 14 April 2018 game at The weald of Kent, a good day considering the condition of the course after a wet week, it will only get better.

There was 21, I think a record turnout included one guest of Steve Carr, Neil Smith good to have him along.

A good buffet breakfast was had before we commenced the game, for some it was a double competition as 7 pairs competed in the BAKC.

The results for the day; Stapleford winner on count back as there was three on 33 points Carl Gregory a well-deserved win (I think your last was Dec 2016)

Nearest the Pin Amos Burnett and Longest Drive Tim Marsh well done.

The lost ball was won by Neil Smith £21.

The food back at the White Horse was very good, Thank you to Mich and Karen our new Landlords.

Next game Friday the 27 April 2018 at Bearsted breakfast 09:00 tee off 10:00, please let me know as soon as you can as extra tee times are not easy to get.

Good day all,

Just finished the results for Friday 23 Feb 18 at Darenth Valley, some very good golf and some not so good. The course was good for the time of year considering the rain we have had.

There were 12 of us willing to brave the elements but it wasn’t as bad as expected shorts were still worn by some, not bad for a Friday.

Welcome to two new members Mary and Graham Darling, who played their first game at Lydd on the 10 of Feb not a good introduction to the society but not put off, a welcome addition to our group.

Winners:

Stapleford winner Richard Davey with a score of 39 well done, Nearest the Pin Mary Darling, Longest Drive Husband Graham Darling, they sat down to Sunday dinner with a bottle of wine each, well done to all.

The lost ball was won by Kevin Beattie £79. Only 11 balls were lost, Kevin Peters commenced the draw by offering Kevin Beattie the bag of balls first and out popped ball 11.

The best result for me was that Kevin Peters handicap has increased by 1 to 19 halleluiah.

Thank you to everyone who took part on Friday, the next game on Saturday the 10 March at Lydd weather permitting.

We are still looking for two players to complete the Pentland Championships teams for the 6 April.

Before breakfast there was a very hearty rendition of Happy Birthday given to big Kev who was 59 on the day.

We had the results at the Weald: Stapleford winner Steve Bray with 35 points well done, Nearest the Pin Rob Pearson and Longest Drive Steve Bray well done. The lost ball was another Roll Over Kitty now stands at £56.

Good day all,

The results for Saturday 09 Decembers game at the Weald of Kent, a good days golf for some not so good for others, the weather a bit cold but very good compared to our expectations.

There were 15 with one newbie being a no show, unfortunately having not given any notification of not playing Peter McLaren who was a reserve dipped out on a game sorry Peter.

After a good breakfasts and briefing on the competitions’ for the day plus some rules and the contents of the Team Captains bag, the game commenced at 10:30.

Afterwards we had the results and prize giving a good result for some with increased stocks of wine for Christmas for some families.

On return to the White Horse, very disappointingly the usual chaos ensued, although I had arrange Christmas Baguettes and Chips, plus phoned the expected arrival time of 17:30 by 18:10 some could not wait any longer and had to leave without the food, again a very disappointing outcome plus no apology or reason given for this very poor service or reduced bill offered hence I will not be ordering food at the White Horse for the 29 December.

Winners:

Stapleford winner Paul Smallman with a score of 32 what a game he had great outcome unfortunately I still have failed to cut his handicap well done Paul, Nearest the Pin Robert Pearson, Longest Drive again Robert Pearson.

Good day all,

Just finished the results for Fridays game at the The Ridge Golf Club, a good days golf for some not so good for others, weather was very good compared to what we expected.

There were only 11 of us (Poor Steve Bray was unavoidable detained at work) and after a very good breakfasts, the game commenced.

Winners:

Stapleford winner Kevin Beattie with a score of 31 well done, Nearest the Pin Paul amazingly Smallman, Longest Drive Julian Wheatley, well done to all.

The lost ball was a roll over £11, new total £25.

Thank you to everyone who took part on Friday.

Main results below and attached.

On the subject of scores and handicaps, my Vice Captain and other staged a mutinying against my proposal to suspend handicap changes during the winter season. Therefore as per last year games that are played on courses that are fully operational handicaps will be assessed and changed.

To be fair to all members I will take a vote on this, please email me your vote, Yes to changes or No to changes.

Next game the Christmas Special, Saturday the 09 December 2017 at the weald of Kent.

Just finished the results for Saturday 11 Novembers game at the Weald of Kent, results are a bit varied, a good days golf for some not so good for others again, weather how lucky were we a bit damp but nothing compared to what we expected from the prediction on the weather forecast.

There were 14 of us including two newbie’s welcome to Richard Davey and Terry Robinson who have said they will be back.

After a very good breakfasts as always, the game commenced.

Afterwards we had a good feed at the White Horse, good variety of sandwiches and lovely chip just what we need on a cold day.

Stapleford winner Keith Tomlinson again with a score of 35 well done, Nearest the Pin (I have never reached this green before) Michael Battrick, Longest Drive Kevin Beattie.

The lost ball Roll Over £14.

Thank you to everyone who took part on Saturday.

There will not be any handicap changes during the winter season, the courses are not generally in good condition for this time of year.

We will still have the usual prizes at the end of each game.

Next game Friday the 24 November 2017 at The Ridge Golf Club.

Bookings to play must be confirmed with me by the Monday morning prior to the game.

Just finished the results for Fridays game at the Weald of Kent, a good days golf for some not so good for others, weather absolutely beautiful for the time of year.

There were only 9 of us and after a very good breakfasts as always, the game commenced.

Winners:

Stapleford winner Andrew Beattie with a stupendous 37 well done (we will never hear the end of it), Nearest the Pin, my good self, Longest Drive Andrew Beattie continued his great game, well done to all.

The lost ball was won by Kevin Beattie £9.

What a great day for the Beattie’s, well done my clan.

Thank you to everyone who took part on Friday.

There will not be any handicap changes during the winter season, the courses are not in good condition and it in many cases distorts handicaps and leaves many of you struggling to adjust during the competitive season.

We will still have the usual prizes at the end of each game.

Next game Saturday the 11 November 2017 at the weald of Kent.
